From June 14-16 we held the last session of our Ecumenical Training in Pastoral Accompaniment in Situations of Domestic Violence (DAPVF). We celebrated the training each participant received and the great effort they put forth to continue serving their communities. (Pictured at left: a button presented to the graduation attendees) |

“There is a lot of violence in Mexican communities, in our churches, in all of Christianity and we have to do something. We often say, ´better to keep quiet, better to not say anything,´ but in doing this, we become complicit,” shared David during the graduation of the second generation of INESIN´s Ecumenical Training in Pastoral Accompaniment in Situations of Domestic Violence (DAPVF). After two years and seven two-and-a-half day sessions, 11 church and civil-society leaders graduated from DAPVF in mid-June. These graduates are now better prepared to accompany those living in situations of domestic violence in Chiapas. Domestic violence does not distinguish between religions; it occurs within all denominations. However, the church is also a place to turn to for support. In response to these realities, DAVPF strives to raise awareness and train “church and civil-society leaders who accompany individuals and families affected by domestic violence.” Through this training, DAPVF hopes to prevent domestic violence and promote a culture of non-violence.” Below, we share a few testimonies of the recent graduates, their families and the organizers of this training: “This workshop was a great blessing in my life because people come to me in search of accompaniment. I can now offer them support. I can use the tools given to me.” |

“DAPVF has helped me understand myself as part of a couple. It has strengthened us a lot in our married life, which benefits me personally, my family and my service…in the parish. …I will share these important seeds.” |

“Thanks to INESIN for sharing with us and for planting seeds that we will continue to sew outside of this training.” |

“We know that it doesn´t end here. This has been a first step and the journey continues for each graduate in their families, communities, parishes, congregations and municipalities. I wish blessings, wisdom, strength and fortitude to implement what we have learned in this journey. I ask all these things for the families present as well; that there would be peace in your hearts, peace in your families, peace in our homes, in the communities and in the cities where we live.” |
